Lakeshore Medical Training Program
The Lakeshore Medical Training Program is the primary education division of the Northern Indiana Education Foundation (NIEF), with a special focus on two entry-level healthcare positions: Hospital Nursing Aides (HNAs) and certified Health Unit Coordinators (HUCs).
In a unique partnership with Franciscan St Anthony Michigan City, Lakeshore provides the hospital with pre-screened and competency-trained employees ready for hire. In many cases, the students have been cross-trained for both HNA and HUC positions, making job placement easier and more flexible. Students spend their first weeks of training in the classroom, and the remaining weeks in the hospital getting hands-on training in the real work environment. Many employed graduates chose to work part-time while attending local nursing programs.
